Course ObjectivesThis course is designed for motorcyclists with at least one year of riding experience and/or 1,500 miles under your belt. If you are returning to the sport after a hiatus of more than 2 years we encourage you to consider the Basic Riders Course. The essential objectives are to refine critical motorcycle handling skills, including braking, swerving, and cornering. We will also provide a refresher on “street smarts” and other safe riding subjects.
Course DescriptionThis is a one day course, held entirely on one of our riding ranges. The riding exercises build on skills learned in the BRC, including braking, swerving, and cornering. The course starts with a brief inspection of student motorcycles. Your RiderCoach will provide guidance on safety inspections that you should perform before every ride and will ensure that your motorcycle is safe to ride during the training session. The riding exercises begin with a brief description of the objective and the course layout on the range. Each exercise takes about 20 minutes - your RiderCoach will provide friendly advice and critiques during the exercise and, as part of our commitment to adult learning methods, will encourage group discussion at the conclusion of each exercise. This proven method will help you to both absorb and retain the lessons. After every three exercises, we take a break from riding to cover some important issues on rider safety and street strategies. The course concludes with a continuous riding circuit that incorporates a number of different type turns. The repetitive nature of this exercise allows students to refine most of the skills covered during the day. RequirementsYou must provide a street-legal motorcycle for this course. Whether it is your own motorcycle or one borrowed from a friend, please be sure to have a current insurance card and vehicle registration. You will also need a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement OR a learner's permit. Motorcyles must pass inspection by your RiderCoach - this includes at least one-eighth inch of tread on both tires, functioning brake lights, and no fluid leakage or other safety hazards. Finally, you must provide the following protective gear: full-fingered gloves, preferrably a motorcycle-specific type; eye protection (glasses, goggles, or face shield); DOT approved motorcycle helmet; over-the-ankle footwear; long pants; long-sleeved shirt or jacket. Important note: due to our insurance covenants and for the safety of other students, you will not be able to participate in the ERC unless you comply with all of the requirements listed above. |
